What Institrace holds on the NHS

NHS organisations publish a directory, invoices, accounts and board papers. Those records sit on different portals. Institrace holds them on the same graph as councils, officers and companies. That is the whole claim. It is not a claim that every English trust invoice is loaded, and it is not a finding about any named board.

The layers are different grains. Mixing them into one Documents table would make a payment look like a minute. They stay separate. The join is the Organisation Data Service code, then a Companies House number where the file actually contains one.

Directory: Organisation Data Service

NHS England's Organisation Data Service is a national list for England: a code, a name, a status, a kind. The reference files are published under the Open Government Licence. We load that list. A row is not a papers collection. Most codes stay directory-only until a public papers page is confirmed and the body is a tracked source.

Tracked document sources are trusts and integrated care boards with a working board-papers page. We do not treat GP practices, dental contractors or pharmacies as document sources. Directory-only rows stay off the public Sources list. Live counts sit on NHS datasets and NHS intelligence.

Invoices: spend over £25,000

Central government asks public bodies to publish payments over £25,000. NHS Business Services Authority does that as monthly CSVs. Those files are invoices, not a contract register. The first load is NHSBSA as payer, ODS code T1450. Payroll lines and rows that name a person are dropped before storage.

The NHSBSA files we loaded have no company-number column. We do not invent one from a supplier name. Trust-level catalogues are a separate feed. They are not claimed as complete.

Accounts: Trust Accounts Consolidation

NHS England publishes Trust Accounts Consolidation files so that local provider accounts are easier to find in one place. The files are not the parliamentary consolidated accounts. Totals can differ because consolidation adjustments are not all included. We store a small annual set: income, expenditure, surplus or deficit, net assets, and limited lines for PFI, consultancy and related parties. Illustrative codebooks are not stored as facts.

Contracts: NHSBSA Open Data Portal

The NHSBSA contract register is a quarterly snapshot from Atamis. Contracts, not invoices. The data is under the Open Government Licence and remains subject to NHSBSA copyright. Reuse must include the statement NHSBSA Copyright 2025. Commercial Pipeline is not loaded. Company numbers are stored only when the file contains them.

Board papers

Once a trust or ICB site is tracked, agendas and minutes sit in the same document corpus as councils. Use tracked NHS sources for the public list. A source page shows a sample of recent titles. The count is the number of papers in the index.

What this is not

It is not patient data. It is not a DSPT dump. It is not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland as an ODS-equivalent directory. The national PFI / PF2 file is held locally and is not in the product yet. A governor or journalist can use the layer to see what is published, then open the original file. Cite that file, not Institrace as the record.
