Ethics
Institrace is an index of records that are already public. We make them findable. We do not add a story on top of them. We only index public bodies. A supplier, developer, or care-home Ltd appears when a public file or a published identifier attaches it. We do not run a private-company directory.

We do not interpret or allege
We index records and join them on identifiers those records already carry. We do not add facts. We do not allege misconduct. We do not treat an overlap as a conclusion. A flag is a signal for a human reader. What you do with the record is your decision.
A similar name is not enough
Two records attach when they share a company number, a Companies House officer identifier, an NHS organisation code, a charity number, or an official island company number. A name is not enough. A surname is not enough. We do not invent a company number from a supplier string. A party named in a judgment is not treated as a person in the index.
Cite the original
Every entry is meant to point at the file the body published. If you use the index, cite that file. Institrace is how you found the record, not the record itself. Official sources contain errors, delays and gaps. So does any index of them.
Court judgments
UK judgments are published by The National Archives under the Open Justice Licence. We have applied for bulk access. Until that is granted we hold none. When we do, we will store the citation, the court, the date and the named parties, then link to Find Case Law. We will not host the full text. We will not run a generative model on that text. We will not give legal advice.
Who can see the index
The pages you can read without signing in describe the service and the holdings. The index itself is restricted. Access is issued after review. Signed-in pages are not offered to search engines.
If something is wrong
We do not have a standing external ethics board. An independent review is planned before the index is opened more widely. If a record should not be here, or two records have been joined in error, write to [email protected]. We will consider that against the original publication. We cannot un-publish a council minute or a Companies House filing.
