Investigations and exports
An investigation is a file on your seat. A pin points at a record already on the index. Export downloads that file and the text we hold for each pinned paper. It does not download every paper a pinned body has ever published.
Open one, then pin
Open an investigation from the dashboard, or from All investigations. Give it a subject. On any person, company, body, or paper, use Pin and choose that investigation. A search, a pack, and a date can be pinned too. A pin is a pointer. It is not a join, and it is not a finding.
Notes are your words. They stay on the investigation. The index does not read them.
Clear pins, or clear investigations
Clear pins is on the investigation. It removes every pin, and the notes that sit on those pins. The investigation, its own note, and the activity log stay. Only the owner sees the button. The confirm says how many pins will go.
Clear investigations is on the dashboard and on All investigations. It deletes every investigation this seat owns. The confirm lists the titles before anything is deleted. A file someone else shared with you stays. Delete one investigation from its settings if you only want that one gone.
What an export is
Export, or Download zip, spends one export and downloads one zip. Inside it: index.md, which is the title, the pins, your notes, and the activity trail. Then one text file for each pinned paper, up to 200. Each file is the text we hold, plus the address of the original on the publisher's site. If a paper has no text yet, the file says so.
A pinned body, person, company, search, or date stays a line in the index. Pinning Sefton Council does not put every Sefton paper in the zip. Pin the papers you want.
Papers after the first 200 are named in papers-left-out.txt and still listed in the index. The Activity CSV on Practice and Newsroom is the trail alone. It does not spend an export.
How many
A trial includes 2 exports for the whole 14 days. They do not reset mid-trial. A paid Researcher seat includes 8 a month. Practice includes 30. Newsroom includes 80. The month resets on the first day, UTC. An invite seat uses the same cap as its plan. The account and the investigation both show how many are used.
A papers search download, a person download, and a Pack list or spend download do not spend this allowance. One click on an investigation is one export, however many pinned papers are inside the cap.
